Paddy in the Buttercups

Paddy is Nicky and Andy's Dog, but as he lives next door he's ours when they're away.
He came from Bath Cats and Dog Home about 7 years ago and the vet thinks he's about 14 now.
Great with people but he hates other dogs, when he came from Claverton they told us we would never be able to let him off the lead but as you can see from the picture a simple call and he comes running back if he's not to busy chasing squirrels

First New Arcade in Bath since 1825.

Almost ready to open the new arcade in the Southgate Centre.
The original 1825 arcade as it is today.
My picture of the arcade soon after the IRA bombed it in 1974.

Goodbye BT Hello Orange.

I finally decided to dump BT, and have signed up for Orange to take over my Phone, Internet and Mobile services.
I should mean much the same service but will give me a mobile that works in Combe Hay and save around £20 a month.
This is the lovely Abby from the Cheap street Orange branch who very efficiently did all the paperwork today.
I will blog about them when they have shifted all my services.

Map of Combe Hay

As the village has no street names we often get delivery drivers asking where particular houses are.
For the last few years we have given them copies of a millenium map drawn by the late Barbara Robertson.
Recently I decided to update it, by adding a grid and index.
If you need to find a house in Combe Hay the map is HERE

Good crop of daisies this year

Picture David Mattock from an idea by Wendy Farr who still has stitches from her operation last week and couldn't get down on the ground to take it..

A very moving occasion.

The Unveiling of the RoadPeace memorial stone for road crash victims in the South West in Bath today.

Cane Corso Puppy

I bumped into Misty today in Bath, she's a Cane Corso Puppy with very big feet, and will weigh about a hundred pounds when fully grown.
The Cane Corso is an Italian Mastiff very popular for guarding and hunting.
If you have to ask the price you can't afford one.

Flooring in Bath

We've just had new flooring laid in the passage at home, it was laid by Chris Hitchcock, Chris who learned the trade from his father really specialises in wood floors.
But made and excellent job of laying the 36 square metres of vinyl in our awkward shaped passage with only three joins.
He quoted a fair price with no extras and was a real traditional craftsman, when was the last time a tradesman shook your hand when he left.

Unsung Heroes-Poo Man Pete.

Living in this lovely village has lots of benefits, fresh air, great views, river and waterfall at the bottom of the garden, nice neighbours and not a hoodie in sight.
But one slight snag is no main drainage, so once every three months we get a visit from Poo Man Pete, always cheerful and polite (one of the few people left in the world that calls me Sir) he quickly runs the pipes a few hundred feet to the septic tank and the contents of the tank are gone within the hour.
And if you think that’s bad remember when the main sewage pipe
from Bath to Saltford sewage works split on the Lower Bristol Road.
